A Change Has Come to South MacGregor
South MacGregor . Biz is an INFORMATIONAL WEBSITE, which is a product from community campaign workers for President Barack Obama; 2008 Presidential Campaign [www.My.BarackObama.com]. These committed "Obama" supporters also hosted Monthly House Meetings, after the election [www.Change.gov] and organized Community Service Activities, prior to the Inauguration [www.USAservice.org]. Consequently, many "Obama" supporters, private citizens, and organized groups throughout the United States have continued the campaigning momentum; from "Yes We Can", "Change is Coming", and "Campaigning for Obama" in 2008; to "Organizing for America" [and "My Houston Texas; Information"] in 2009.
Discussions after the 2008 Presidential Campaign, many community campaign workers in Houston, Texas expressed a common discovery; many residents in Houston neighborhoods were disenfranchised with government, lacked confidence in elected officials, and felt that their vote would not make a difference. Coincidentally, the theme for the 2008 Presidential Campaign was: Change is Coming. President Obama is committed to support grassroots organizations because he began as a grassroots community worker; he was aware of the importance to give citizens “HOPE”, therefore the theme for the House Meetings was: Renewing America’s Promise. During the Monthly House Meetings; "Obama" supporters discussed important issues, and concluded that there was a consistent factor that directly impacts all social issues - a lack of community based communication. Many Greater Houston residents discuss how the lack of community based communication was evident immediately before/after Hurricane Ike.
Yes, radio stations announced where residents could find rations (i.e. food and water), but individually, residents were NOT aware of available RESOURCES within their neighborhoods, prior to the natural disaster. Therefore, we define community based communications as a method of communicating to a large number of community residents (i.e. individuals, religious organizations, businesses, and community organizations) and providing information to empower residents with relevant knowledge concerning their specific neighborhood. Accordingly, Houston community campaign workers developed MyHoustonTexas.Info as a communication and information mechanism for Houston Residents; based upon the pertinent issues in their respective neighborhood. MyHoustonTexas.Info also supports grassroots organizations to empower neighborhood residents and commerce i.e. South MacGregor, South Park, South Union, and Sunnyside. MyHoustonTexas.Info is a communication and information service created by Houston residents; for Houston residents; and supported by Houston commerce.
